What Are Flea Pills?
Flea pills are oral insecticides that help to combat, treat and prevent flea infestations in dogs.
There are different types of flea pills that are often prescribed by veterinarians, each has a different active chemical ingredient that uniquely targets fleas.
Some flea pills kill adult fleas, others kill larvae and some inhibit the ability of a flea to lay eggs.
Knowing which part of the flea lifecycle is the pill targets is essential for effective flea control, so read the label carefully and talk to your veterinarian.
Types Of Flea Pills For Dogs
The Merck Veterinary Manual lists the following chemical compounds in flea pills that are most effective against fleas:
Most of us have only heard of these compounds by their brand names, but it is useful to know the active ingredients during your research.
What To Look Out For With The Best Flea And Tick Treatment For Dogs
If your pet is infected with these little critters, you need to know what to look out for with the best flea and tick pills for dogs that are available.
How To Use
If you want to cure your dog of fleas and ticks, consider the treatment. Oral medication (flea pills) should usually be taken daily until the infection has disappeared. However, local treatments can be administered once a month and can last up to 30 days.
Are There Cats At Home?
Dogs are not the only animals that can be infected by fleas and ticks. Cats can do that too and they can pass on cat fleas to your dog. It is important that when you treat your dog against fleas and ticks, you also treat your cat to prevent them from passing on fleas and ticks after the treatment is completed.
Although current treatments provide relief almost immediately, they are not as effective as oral medication.
Because flea pills are prescribed by a veterinarian, they are a stronger and more powerful form of treatment that causes fleas and ticks to be killed.
There is no preference for curing fleas and ticks in your pet, rather than what you think will be the best form of medication for your dog.
Remember, check all the factors we mentioned above and make sure that the best flea and tick treatment for dogs you choose is suitable for your pet.
Both Dogs And Cats
If you are looking for a treatment that affects both dogs, while curing cats is a topical treatment, this may be the best option for you.
Oral medication prescribed by a veterinarian has a different dosage for cats and dogs and varies depending on their age and weight. However, topical treatment is applied to the skin so that it is safe for both dogs and cats.
Age Of Your Dog
The age of your dog will play an important role in determining whether topical oral medication treatment is the best form of treatment for your pet. Local treatments, depending on brand and ingredients, can usually be given to pets from the age of 7 weeks. However, oral medication is given when your pet is usually 14 weeks or older.
10 Best Flea And Tick Pills For Dogs 2020
Current flea and tick treatments refer to shampoos, spot-on flea, and tick treatments and powders with varying degrees of success.
You can find cheap flea pills for dogs with the best potential for killing fleas and ticks.
Here is a list of the best current flea treatments to beat the infection that drives your dog crazy!
Starting with the assessment, we have the best flea pill for dogs, i.e. Advantus Soft Chew for many reasons. Stating the most relevant reason, this will be an effective chemical recipe.
You will not find another product that delivers comparable results. Not to mention, the Advantus comes for convenience with different dosages and bottle sizes.
In addition, the Advantus has imidacloprid as its active ingredient as a Bayer product. Imidacloprid is a popular ingredient that has many topical but also oral flea remedies. The apparent product also starts to work within one hour after the consumption of the chewable tablet.
Apart from that, the makers of Advantus recommend the use of flea and tick pills for feeding dogs according to the severity requirement. However, you may not use more than one pill per day.
On the contrary, you can visit the vet for better help with the problem if the Advantus does not affect the fleas on your dogs. Also, make sure you dose your pooch with flea medicines according to the method prescribed by the manufacturer or veterinarian.
- Single-dose kills adult fleas
- Begins killing fleas within 1 hour
- Flavored soft chew, contains no animal protein
Questions & Answers
How long does a dose last?
I have an 18lb shitzhu that I adopted 3 months ago. I first tried a different brand and was surprised that I had to use all 6 tabs in one month. In the past with my other pets it would be once a month. Now with this brand it has been the same. Unfortunately because of the price I had to choose both ... So I am going back to Vinager baths. That really works. 🙂
This items has the description of the large dog variety, but is also has the picture and title of the small dog variety. Which is it? Thanks.
When I bought this, I received the large dog bottle. It's a little confusing.
Can this product be given along with a flea collar for extra protection?
That stuff is weak! Do not buy!
Does the flea have to bite first to die? Or does this kill them on contact?

I have to say I was quite skeptical, even after reading the reviews. I mean, it seems like every flea control product that people love is just appetizers for fleas in Florida !!!! I took a leap and bought this product. I am so happy that I did! I have a bulldog that likes to be outside ... nothing worked. I gave him one and waited to see if it REALLY would work within an hour ... of course it didn't ... but after a few hours I noticed he wasn't scratching. I decided to give it the next day ... and the next day ... and the next ... NO FLIGHTS! Nothing ... not in my house, not in my carpet, not on my dog !!! So now I'm on my second bottle ... he loves them. He thinks it's goodies. Did I mention that he is a very large dog? Anyway ... don't hesitate ... buy it. It's cheaper than the topics that only last 2 weeks ... if that takes a long time.
I have paid much more for this than I have paid to Amazon. It really works on my German Shepherd, who is allergic to fleas. Make sure you give with food. I only tried it and it upset my dog.

AS CLAIMED, they worked quickly to rid my dog of fleas - even she is happy. No long-term preventive, but now the preventive Rx can work more efficiently.
Frontline Plus states that fleas start killing within four hours and wipes out 100% of the pests within twelve percent.
The other two take 12 hours to kill even fleas. If you need monthly treatment and want to rid your pet of a current plague quickly, Frontline is your best choice.
Field tests have made Frontline the place for our favorite monthly flea treatment. In particular, we learned that Frontline uses a superior applicator compared to PetArmor and Sentry. Remove the protective seal and loosen the long, narrow point to open it.
The other two had to be cut open, with medication leaking onto the scissors. This may sound like a small detail, but it is always best to prevent less spillage when handling chemical products.
Although most people have a chemical odor (after all, they are chemicals), Frontline was a worse culprit than some.
It has a clear rough odor compared to PetArmor and Sentry’s spot-on treatments. We recommend avoiding this if you (or your dog) have a hypersensitive nose.
- WATERPROOF FLEA AND TAP TREATMENT FOR DOGS: Frontline Plus for dogs offers a waterproof, fast-acting, long-lasting flea and tick treatment and control for your dog. This product is approved for use in dogs 45-88 lbs.
- BREAK THE FLEA LIFE CYCLE WITH FRONTLINE: Frontline flea and tick treatment for dogs kills adult fleas plus flea eggs and larvae to stop existing infestations and prevent new infestations.
- DEAD MEAT AND SIGN: Frontline flea and tick treatment for dogs kills fleas, flea eggs, lice, and ticks. This flea and tick treatment kills ticks, including those that can transmit Lyme disease.
Questions & Answers
Differs. Usually it works reasonably well. Certainly it will ensure that your house is not infected by fleas. It is less toxic than comfort, and I stayed there. I would say 80% effective.
Can i use this on my cat?
They sell frontline for cats. Do not use the dog power on a cat
How soon after use, can I bathe dog with shampoo?
"FRONTLINE Plus remains effective for 30 days, even if your pet swims or is bathed. After application, keep your pet from getting wet for 24 hours. If FRONTLINE Plus is to be applied after a bath, make sure your pet is completely dry before application. "I would also wait a few extra days if there are fleas in your carpet or if the dog is around bark dust because you can't reapply it if you wash it off prematurely. I try to wait until I have vacuumed the house a few times. Also, it takes a starving flea a couple of days to die. I totally understand not wanting to touch that wet spot on puppy's neck. This is a small sacrifice. Good luck! I am a firm believer in frontline.
How do I know its not conterfit?
There are things they say to look for and I checked for those things... mine looked 100% authentic but it WAS NOT!!! I used it for 3 months straight and the fleas are worse than EVER now. They never went away. I will never buy products online ever again!!!
Top Customer Reviews
Allow me to emphasize this review by saying from more than 700 reviews that this is the hardest to write because I despise having to use pesticides on our dogs. That said, we live centrally in Tick and Flea, surrounded by deep forest and our bulldogs are family in every sense of the word and we do what we need to protect them. That said, if you read these reviews, your dog or dogs are also your heart and using these products is a difficult choice to make, but it is one that we have to make. On that note, I hope the following information has some value for you. Frontline was first put into clinical trials in 1985 shortly after the discovery of the active ingredient Fipronil. To honor, Frontline has retained the safest, although not the most effective treatment for fleas and ticks. However, the more effective products present a considerably greater risk for your dog. It is a slippery slope, but in evaluating what is best for your dog by offering the highest level of protection with the lowest risk, Frontline and FrontLine Plus are, in my opinion, your best bet. Most tick and flea products contain Permethrin, which can also be listed as Lyclear or Nix as the active ingredient. Permethrin is a deadly neurotoxin that flows through the dog's bloodstream and flushes into every major organ - including the brain where it can cause serious damage. Thousands of dogs die from Permethrin every year. Although the FDA has imposed a minimal use not to exceed 750PPM, companies continue to ignore the directive because it is cheap and effective, and unfortunately it is our dogs that pay the price. What makes Permethrin so dangerous is that it cannot distinguish between insects and mammals, which naturally includes humans. It is known that it has been deadly to cats since the 1970s. In fact, it is so deadly to cats that even a small transfer from dog to cat can lead to seizures, brain damage and death. Permethrin is also volatile - meaning that the properties in the air pose a threat to everyone who inhales it - including people. Frontline, on the other hand, uses Fipronil. Fipronil is an insecticide. Like any chemical of this nature, it can be fatal if the dose is too high. However, studies, including those from the Department of Environmental Conservation, have repeatedly found that as long as the amount of Fipronil is the correct dose for the weight and size of your dog's toxicity, it is much easier to avoid and the product is much safer for your dog. Unlike Premethrin, Fipronil is only included in the hair follicles and oil glands. It is not included in the dog system nor is it volatile, so that you and your beloved pets and children can breathe easily. The second active ingredient in FrontLine Plus is Methoprene, a long-standing and proven IGR (insect growth regulator) that is distributed exactly like Fipronil, but only works on fleas and tick eggs and larvae - this is important because it kills these pests in the beginning of a new life cycle. Moreover, the diseases that ticks now bear are infinitely more serious than the dreaded lime disease - which was the only concern for decades. Frontline competitors (and some vets selling other products) claim that fleas and ticks have become resistant to Frontline - However, these pests have become resistant to all pesticides to some extent and there is no independent investigation to confirm this claim. I can assure you that I have thoroughly investigated this. Basically, all of these products represent a risk. It is wise to minimize that risk in your attempt to protect your best friend from the diseases that this pest entails. Again, these diseases can be infinitely more deadly than the ingredients of protection. To this end, your safest and most effective choice is Frontline or Frontline Plus. If your pet has a bad reaction to Frontline products, these are the symptoms you would see: * Restlessness * Itching * Vomiting * Difficult breathing * Lethargy If these symptoms occur, take your pet to your vet or emergency clinic immediately. It should be comforting to know that, unlike the toxic ingredients in most other flea and tick control products, severe reactions to both Fipronil and Methoprene are rare.
It kills fleas on contact so they don’t have to bite your dog for the treatment to be effective; it also works against flea larvae, eggs, and chewable tablets.
Reviewers describe Bayer Advantage II as one of the best flea remedies they have used and noted that it works quickly to combat even serious pests.
Simply divide the hair into the neck of your dog and apply it directly to the skin.
- New packaging, the same formula: contains four applications of a month Bayer Advantage II current flea prevention and treatment for small dogs 3 10 pounds
- Advantage II works through contact so that fleas do not have to bite your dog to die
- Effective flea treatment kills fleas in multiple stages of life, eggs, larvae, and adults to break the flea life cycle

I have three small dogs ranging in size from 5 pounds to 11 pounds. Two have short hair and one has long hair. One of the smaller dogs has a fairly serious allergy to fleas and has chewed the hair off his back in a few places of this allergy. But I needed a while to order something, because I once got very sick of a dog using a flea medicine. I bit the bullet and ordered this based on good reviews, but we also did some preparatory work before we got the benefit II for small dogs. We filled my large bathtub with lukewarm water and let the dogs suck up to their stomachs - although the smallest dog is a few centimeters shorter than the longest dog - so he swam in all honesty. We poured water over the ridges until they were thoroughly soaked and then rubbed them with dawn detergent - the original formula with no added odors. We have sucked them up for at least 5 minutes. The fleas were already drowning and losing weight. We rinsed them and let the bath rain. After filling the bath, to rinse and to drown any remaining fleas, we dragged the dogs away and then applied the flea medium. as recommended on the package. The next morning my bed was strewn with dead fleas. The dogs sleep with me and my sheet was a solid light color, so I could see them quite clearly. I should say that this product works! Does it also work if you do not pre-wash the dogs? I don't know, but I think from now on we will continue to do so.
In addition, people are asking about the effectiveness of these drugs against flea eggs. Although the nitenpyram does not kill the flea eggs until they are eggs. As soon as the eggs develop as larvae and finally as adult fleas, the sentinel dog’s flea pills will kill them all.
Finally, the current tablet type flea agent cannot be chewed. That is why it initially takes some effort to feed this to your dog until you learn. However, you can place the tablet with his daily meal and let him eat without eating anything.
- Treat flea infestations with one simple tablet. Fast-acting starts working after 30 minutes
- Contains Nitenpyram, recommended by vets
- Kills adult fleas on your pet
Questions & Answers
How long does it last?
Having bought this product (nitenpyram, that is, the active ingredient), this product is only intended to last 24 hours. However, my dogs can go awhile between doses without getting more - a couple of weeks. If your animal is heavily infested, I would recommend treating daily for about a week. (I buy in bulk - 100, 57mg capsules at a time for about $65 from a different company who is no longer on Amazon)
Does this kill the eggs as well? And if any new fleas bite does it kill them off also? I currently use comfortis and it works for a month with one dos
It will not kill the eggs... and it only works for about 24hrs. Unlike topicals, it will kill fleas immediately and relieves any problems the animals have right then, but flushes out of their system after about 24hrs. That's why you can re-dose them. It's easy on their system and the only effect I've noticed is a couple of hours of scratching and the "heebie jeebies" about 15minutes after they consume it (while the fleas are dying and making a run for it). I don't use the monthly flea killers anymore. They were just too toxic... freaked my cats out with the smell, caused some vomiting/foaming at the mouth, and did not kill fleas immediately. I just break open the capsules (and since Sentry CapGuard is a pill, crush it) and mix it with food... I use canned salmon and mackerel for my cats. The dog will eat the whole capsule if I hide it in a chunk of dog food or in a "goodie" like a piece of sandwich. I cannot emphasize how well and quickly the stuff works. And it doesn't smell bad and linger in the animal's system. The topical stuff generally makes my cats freak out. When I put topical monthly products (and I've tried most of them over the years... Revolution was the most effective topical I found) on the back of their necks (where they can't lick it), they can still smell it. Plus it doesn't kill right away. I worked in a humane society for many years and when CapStar came out, it was a Godsend! This stuff works with no muss, no fuss. They eat it and don't seem to be able to smell it or taste it. I usually dose them a couple of times a month. Be aware that these Sentry Capguards are in pill form. I've used them before, but I had to grind up the pills for the cats... once again, the dog will gobble down anything hidden in a piece of dog food or bread. These Sentry CapGuards work well, but are only a bit cheaper than the CapStars and not cost effective if you have multiple cats, or if you let your cats outside and dose them more often. I use the generic form of Nitenpyram from a company called Guardian Pet Products. It shows up at the bottom of the Amazon page... very reliable company and the medicine comes in a capsule form... PLUS it comes in flavors... my cats seem to like the chicken best and never even notice it in their food. It only costs about $1.00 per capsule compared to the Sentry pills, which are about double that and much more inconvenient for cats (having to crush the pills). Anyway... I prefer not to have my cats "toxic" on a regular basis and find that a periodic dose of the Nitenpyram when I notice "flea dirt" or scratching is much easier and I haven't had ANY flea problems since changing over several years ago. Plus, any new additions to my cat/dog family get an initial dose of the Nitenpyram to clear up any flea problems they may have. In answer to the questions... no this doesn't work on eggs, and if new fleas jump on board the animal for a "blood lunch" during that 24hr period, they, too will die. I find the Nitenpyram is much easier on my cat's system, kills fleas immediately (and at the humane society I've seen some horrible flea infestations on animals), and the generic is very cheap. Good luck! There are some other meds you can get if you want the long term effect of the topicals... just read some of the reviews and instructions. Hope this helps... and try out that generic Nitenpyram from Guardian, or use the Sentry CapGuard along with the monthly topicals if you decide to stick with topicals. Just remember... the Nitenpyram (active ingredient in CapGuard) is for flea killing RIGHT NOW to address current fleas and ticks on your pet... not eggs and fleas that are born after the 24hr period.
Is it ok for puppies?
Yes, as long as the puppy weighs between 2 and 25 lbs.
Do you need a prescription from the vet for this item?
No. And they work
Top Customer Reviews
When used with a spray, this product has effectively enabled me to end a flea infestation. I know that's a big claim and this drug is scary to use if you look at some of the bad reviews, so let me explain this further. I worked in a vet's office and despite my flea caution, I got something in my house. I kept up-to-date flea treatments for my cats, but I saw improvement in the four days (or so) around the time of a new application and then began to see more and more in the course of the month in between. I treated the carpet, I used DE-powder on the floors / furniture, washed all bedding and clothing in hot water, I vacuumed daily (threw it all the same day in the container), and although everything would help a little, nothing would remove the cats completely my cats and so a few days later I would have the same problem. These small tabs have now helped me tackle exactly that problem. I didn't want to overdo their current medication, so I used this medication in the meantime. Within one package I noticed that I could keep making progress! It basically filled in the opening to prevent new fleas from hatching. Now, a word of warning. - This medicine says it can be used daily. I would definitely not recommend this. Cats are very (very) good at hiding any kind of illness / discomfort, and so without regular visits from vets or problems that have gone too far, it can be difficult to know if a cat has a kidney problem that can be exacerbated by treatment like this. - I would avoid doubling flea medicine. For example, if you only get a topical medicine, I would wait a few days (3-7) before giving them this. This not only gives the subject more time to work (so you may not need to use the tablet at that time), but it also gives their system a break between medications. - Check your dosage! Most of the problems I have found with these drugs are that people either doubled (see last point) or gave too much for the weight of their cat. It is not difficult to weigh a cat. (If you have a scale, you can weigh yourself and then weigh it while holding the cat. Your weight - second weight \\ u003d weight of the cat). Too much medication can cause poisoning problems. - Personally, I preferred to give it to me when I was home. You may want to do the same. I prefer to do this also for new medicines. They get a little crazy because the medication takes effect and the fleas start to bite more, but this is temporary and if your cats are something like mine, they sleep well afterwards if they itch less. I add if anything changes, but so far so good!
These Capguard pills work great. My cat had gotten fleas very much and I usually buy one or two from my vet at a very expensive price. So I thought I'd just check Amazon because my motto is if Amazon sells them! I found these so I tried them. They worked just as well as the other brand at a much better price. I gave the first one to my cat and I could see it worked within 3 or 4 hours, but just to be sure I gave it another one in a few days. I could literally see her fleas fall and she feels so much better and rest better. And I have more pills to give her if I have to dose her again later in the summer. I am completely satisfied and so is Pandora my cat.
Just like Frontline, PetArmor Plus uses fipronil to kill existing fleas and (s) methoprene to prevent them from coming back. The two treatments even look almost identical, delivered in packs of three applications, for three different dog sizes. However,
PetArmor is cheaper than the competition – almost half the cost of Frontline for dogs over 44 pounds. The disadvantage: acting a little slower and not that easy to apply.
But if you are mainly looking for preventive benefits (not a flea killer on the spot), then you probably save a few dollars with PetArmor.
PetArmor Plus also has a softer scent than Frontline. It is almost citrus-like, rather than the sharp chemical odor that we have noticed with other spot-on treatments.
The main difference between PetArmor and Frontline Plus is the response time: PetArmor needs up to 12 hours to kill fleas, while Frontline must have solved the problem at the same time.
That said, both drugs are equally effective in protecting your dog against fleas and ticks during the month.
If your dog does not need immediate itch relief, the longer setup time should not be a problem.
We didn’t like the PetArmor Plus applicator. It must be cut open and tends to leak out when you do this. You must be extra careful when rinsing the scissors and washing your hands during this treatment to ensure that chemicals do not end up where they should not be.
- EFFECTIVE, WATERPROOF FLEA TREATMENT FOR DOGS: PetArmor Plus is a fully watertight, flea and ticks topical prevention for dogs that kill fleas, flea eggs, flea larvae, ticks and chewing lice for up to 30 days after application.
- TRUSTED, ANIMAL QUALITY FORMULA: PetArmor Plus for Dogs contains fipronil and the same active ingredients as Frontline Plus for dogs and has a powerful formula that starts killing fleas within 24 hours.
- BREAK THE FLY CYCLE: Unlike other flea and tick treatments that kill adult fleas, PETARMOR Plus dog flea treatment works by breaking the flea life cycle. Kills flea eggs and larvae for up to 12 weeks

Why are the tubes not even filled? There is maybe 2 drops in each tube which doesnt seem like enough unless it is just that concentrated???
My tubes were full
Were is product manufactured?
Shane, PetArmor Plus is manufactured in the USA.
Where is the expiration found on box? I cant seem to find it. Thanks!
I can not remember. The date on the box is when they were created. Not the expiration date. So if it says 6/7/17, it is made and the shelf life is 2 years
How soon has anyone seen results, as far as killing th current fleas and keeping fleas away?
This lasts for the full month so I just apply it the first of the month. At the start of the season I give her a bath and put it on when she is dry and we have no fleas or ticks.

I have been using Advantix for years, but the fleas were exceptionally bad this year (Northern CA). It seemed that I had to apply again every 3 weeks. We have a number of rescue dogs and it became really expensive. I searched for other options and decided to try this based on the reviews. It works great. I have not yet had to apply again. Originally purchased for small dogs but then purchased for large outdoor dogs. Great experience across the board. Thanks everyone for the reviews.
This works just as well as the Frontline brand, for a fraction of the cost. We live in a rural area in the north of Minnesota, with many forests and lakes. The ticks are out of control here, but this product works great on our two small dogs - they have had no ticks all year round! Now, if only they could make it for people.
Tried many different products with negative results. I went to my local pet store and got the 'natural organic' stuff and it made the fleas worse. This product worked great on my dachshund. It didn't remove all fleas, but his crabs went from the whole day to a few minutes a day. Last bath produced around 4 or 5 fleas in the tub of over 20 before application. He is much happier and his skin becomes clearer. Excellent price for what you get.
Capstar is a pill that only works to remove a current flea infestation on your dog, comes in two formulas based on the weight of your dog and it is a great solution for a bad flea infestation that you want to end as soon as possible.
It is killing all adult fleas on your dog within four hours. Although the future flea or tick of the last 24 hours does not occur, it is by far the best solution for a flea situation that got out of hand.
Combine with a floor shampoo to kill eggs and combat future pests. best result.
Assessors say Capstar is their help for immediate flea help and often the first step in a multi-step flea removal process.
If you find yourself suddenly fighting an annoying flea situation, Capstar is a great solution to solve the problem.
- One oral tablet starts killing fleas within 30 minutes of administration
- Quickly tackle flea infestations (give Capstar and watch your pets dead fleas fall
- The convenience of a non-prescription oral tablet available from your veterinarian
Questions & Answers
Why is this so much cheaper than from vet? Is it a "knock-off or actual product?
This is not a letdown, it is the actual Capstar. The only thing I can think of why you can find it so much cheaper online is because most online stores can generally process much smaller margins than most vets. We find that most vets mark products from 100 to 300%. The margins of online retailers are usually much lower than that.
I this 1 dosage that would be purchasing? How long does a da
It just kills what fleas are on the animal then, it is not a long acting you would need to put a flea preventative on the animal as well. Hope this helps.
Can you use this along with Advantage/Frontline (topical treatment)?
Absolutely. Capstar is pretty safe. I use both when I need to. They are different medications. I like to give my dogs advantix topical and the capstar orally at the same time if I've got an issue with the fleas. Capstar is safe to give once daily, or once every 24 hours. The topical treatment is absorbed and spread to the rest of the skin via the skin oils produced by the dog. It's not even fully effective for a good 24 hours after you apply it. Thats why I give the capstar. It's not like my dogs are on the stuff all year round. They go a year or two with only one capstar pill every now and then. But if I end up with an issue, and suddenly a flea circus tries to move in, I simply apply the topical stuff as well as a capstar until it frosts outside late fall. I know it's chemicals and all, but seriously? I know my dogs would rather be eat flea meds in a cheese cube than be scratching and biting at themselves all day, and even worse being miserable with a flea induced dermatitis allergy. Never seems to bother them at all. That's my humble opinion. You can spread it out a couple days to see how your pets do, but it never has caused me any trouble. And I've got some REALLY happy dogs. Hope my answer helps. Happy tails....
How often do I give my dog capstar?
The information insert says it is safe to give once a day until adult fleas are no longer seen. Then once a week and eventually once a month for maintainance. It is also necessary to treat your house and clean and vacuum thoroughly. A 50/50 mixture of sea salt and 20 Mule Team Borax works well. Sprinkle it on carpets and furniture and let it sit overnight, then vacuum. The mixture dehydrates the fleas and kills them and breaks the reproduction cycle. May have to do this a couple times. Worked for me, just don't let the pets walk on it and then lick their feet.

One star rating for this product seems to work like this Not successful! without stating their method used. Others say they only worked for one day! Duh. It just says if day WORKS ONLY ONE DAY! Another ignorant twit wrote: It's not my home! I have hardwood floors! So you're weak enough to think that fleas can't infect a house with hard floors? Do you also sleep in a hardwood bed? Sit on a hardwood couch? Did you know that fleas fit between hardwood planks and between tiles and furniture? Here is a real assessment for those who are a little weak or the inexperienced: these work for a total of up to 24 hours. The effectiveness ends after a day on which the medicine stops working. This gives you a time to clean up. Proceed as follows to cheat pets using this product, killing ONLY ADULT FLIGHTS for only 24 hours: 1. Purchase and manage pill (s) to pet (s). One pill per pet per day. Just read the instructions on the package. Buy flea shampoo. These pills will not kill eggs left on your pet, you must wash your pet with a pet shampoo that says it will kill flea eggs. Wash your pet, take your time. If you rush through the bath, the shampoo has no time to work. Buy and use flea comb. Most of your fleas will be dead. If this is not the case, you want to catch them in the comb and let them pop with your nails and / or flush them. It's dirty, yes, but you have to kill live fleas as you can. The pills should help here. Rinse all fleas, dead or alive. Be safe, not sorry. Buy flea spray. Raid makes flea spray in a purple can that is VERY effective. Do not spray near pets, do not leave pets near treated areas for at least one hour. Follow the directions of the flea spray, make sure you spray your pet's favorite resting places. Do not spray directly on your animal (s) !!! 6. Do the laundry. You want to wash pet bedding, clothing, your bedding, all lying fabrics such as blankets where fleas can hide, including towels that you have used to dry your pet after their bath. Vacuum. If you have carpets or cat trees or other unwashed items where your pet spends time, vacuum them thoroughly. Make sure you move things around and be very thorough. One missed flea can earn tons more in no time.8. Repeat the above steps if necessary. Why are these pills used if they only work for one day? I'll tell you. When your flea bathes a pet, the fleas run to their faces. It is dangerous to put flea shampoo on the face of your pet, such as around the eyes, nose and mouth, and that is exactly where the fleas run. On pets with dark coats it is difficult to SEE even the fleas. These pills, used in combination with flea baths and a thorough cleaning, ensure that you have not missed any of the fleas on your pet. It also ensures that those who jump on your pet during cleaning will die. These pills are cheaper (and safer) than monthly pills of insecticides for pets, and more effective than gross topical insects that you get in your hands to pet your cat or dog and that are also licked by cats that care for each other and become sick of swallowing the topical insecticide. These pills mean that you will sooner achieve within 24 hours what it takes 1-2 weeks to reach without them, IF YOU ARE SMART AND CLEAN GOOD TO PREVENT REINFESTATION. If you are lazy and do not wash your pet and clean your house, you waste your money. If you decide to be lazy because you think your house cannot contain fleas, you are wrong. That is where these star ratings seem to come from. There is no really lazy way out of flea infestation, but you can reduce your work time and effort by using these pills. cover your legs, add a new step 5. Buy flying bombs, one per room, and follow the instructions. Let the bombs do their work and get all living things out of your house for an hour or two. (Even if you crate your pet and wait somewhere safely outside for an hour or two, it's enough if the weather permits.) These pills WORK. But you must do YOUR PART to ensure that all the fleas and eggs in your house die. Trust me this one. I have literally owned dozens of cats and have had to deal with a number of serious pests. (Because someone else would keep an eye on my cats for a month, this led to a scourge where they could stand on my countertop to keep them away from me.) Advice for cats: keep cats indoors. Every pet that goes outside will most likely bring them inside. And moreover, some yards and locations breed higher fleas. They sell flea killers that you can spray over your garden. It is a great investment for dog owners who have no choice but to take their pet outside. Fleas can also occur in your house all winter without you seeing them and turning up when the weather gets warmer. Winter is the best time to kill them because they are less active in cold areas. Take it easy and keep cleaning. These pills are not curable and were not meant to be, but they do their job and will help you enormously. Thanks.
We finally found the silver bullet. These work better than anything else we have tried and we have tried every type of repellent and pesticide that is available without a prescription. I was extremely reluctant to try an oral product after reading the CDC reports on these types of treatments. The results were frightening. Because all of these drugs adversely affect the parasite's central nervous system, the obvious answer is to stay away for the safety of your pet. However, these tablets work quickly, but do not remain in your pet's system for a long time. That means that if they show side effects, they are short-lived and you have time to stop using them before permanent damage is caused, unlike the prescribed treatments that last for months and even years and turn your puppy into a vegetable. So far we have had very positive results after suffering from a large flea infestation. Some sneaky cats found a hole under our house and they and their lifters found a home. Before we even realized they were there, we had more fleas than we and our pest control service could handle. Capstar saved us all from losing fur. I highly recommend this in both sizes. We have small, medium and large hairy friends and this medicine worked perfectly for all three. It is five days ago and we are as flea free as a house could wait until they all come out, but go and leave. It takes a few weeks for them to complete the circle, but our four-legends heal and peel at an incredible pace. None of them shows signs of illness, mentally or physically, so I can honestly say from our experience that this product is probably the safest on the market. Pesticides can irritate my skin and hers, but natural repellents simply don't stand a chance in some areas. This stuff works for us.
First of all, if you think that garlic is not the right ingredient for dogs, this is not the case. People or vets have incorrectly published the exaggerated effects of garlic on dogs than what it actually is! Even the Department of Veterinary Medicine carried out test sizes of garlic and gave it to four dogs.
Not to mention, the researchers gave the dogs 5 grams of garlic per kg body weight for seven days in a row.
Moreover, so many garlic people can even give goosebumps. However, feeding smaller amounts of garlic not only has positive effects, but it is in no way harmful to your dog.
Given the characteristics of this product, Springtime flea and tick pills are one of the best treatment options for dogs. It effectively kills many parasites, from fleas, ticks to even mosquitoes and mosquitoes.
The best part of this tablet is that it can be chewed. That is why you can crush it and mix it into your dog’s meal and feed it without problems.
In addition, this medicine can activate deadly action as soon as you give it to your dog. A tablet a day is also sufficient for the best result. However, you can go for another tablet the next day if there are some parasites on your dog.

How many pills in a bottle?
180 chewable tablets, but my dogs wouldn't touch them. I even tried to crack them and sprinkle them in their food, they wouldn't touch it. Now I have a large bottle that collects dust. * sigh *
What are the dosages??

Are they small enough to hide in a piece cheese slice for my Chihuahua?
Hello, thank you for your question! Yes, the chew tables are about the size of two pennies stacked on top of each other. They are scored so that you can divide them into four. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks! Springtime Supplements
Reading reviews about fleas, but what about ticks? Has anyone found ticks on dogs while using this product?
Yes, my dog has a lot of ticks. I mean A LOT of sign - more than 100. It was in a lawn and I didn't expect it in November and it was an area I was not familiar with. My dog received both deer texts and dog ticks.

I have never written an Amazon review in my life, but I knew I had to write it. My wife and I spent a lot of crazy time searching for a solution for the recent drawing conditions of my dog. We googled a lot about the damn drawing treatments (Frontline, Bravecto, etc ..) and as people who don't have children yet, our dog is our whole world, and we could never forgive ourselves if something happened to him. And so many of those treatments have such terrible assessments that their dogs get sick, get seizures, or even die. We have spent a lot of money trying to take a completely natural approach. And nothing really seemed to work so well ... to these bad guys! My dog loves them and eats them as treats (I have to add that my brother-in-law has used them too and throws them over, so they have to crush it and put it on his food - and since then no more problems). And every morning and night we do a sign check after our walks and there has been no sign for more than a week! I'm so grateful for these things.
I hesitated to try this, but decided to trust the friend who recommended it. I'm glad I did that. I never had bad luck with the chemicals, but wanted to try something more natural - just in case. They are easy to break and my dog eats them without hesitation. The only negative is that she has pretty intense 'garlic breath' for a while, but it is a small price to pay. Because this is the first time I use this - and it's still pretty early in the season - I keep a close eye on her. Until now - no fleas, no ticks.

This stuff WORKS! We use it for our dog instead of the nasty medicine to which he responds. He was flea free all summer. However, it took a few weeks to build up in his system, so start early in the season. And he would not eat the tablet (he is notoriously picky), so we crush it into his food. It easily crushes between your fingers.
We have been using this for about 8 years and love it.
The Fiproguard Plus treatment from Sentry is cheaper than Frontline Plus for dogs under 44 pounds and the same price for dogs under 44 pounds. It is generally not as affordable as PetArmor Plus.
That said, it has the same active ingredients and is equally effective – so if you see it for sale or for a price lower than PetArmor, you would feel good taking the plunge.
We thought Sentry Fiproguard had a mild, harmless odor. It is less openly chemical than Frontline and some of the other spot-ones that we have tested.
This is another good choice (along with PetArmor) for pet owners with sensitive noses.
Sentry’s spot-on medication needs 12 hours to eliminate fleas, just like PetArmor Plus.
This will not be a problem if you are purely looking for monthly, preventive treatment and no immediate relief from a current flea infestation.
If your puppy needs quick action along with monthly protection, try Frontline Plus – which starts working in just four hours.

- FAST-ACTING FLEA TREATMENT: SENTRY Fiproguard Plus is a fast-acting, long-lasting local flea treatment for dogs that kills the flea life cycle and kills flea eggs and larvae for up to 12 weeks.

I. continued the investigation and decided to give it a try after talking to my vet. Yes, the product works. It seems to be safe for dogs and our Teddy has not experienced any side effects while using it. It seems a much better bargain than Frontline at the right price. In that case you might as well take it with confidence. It is definitely a bargain for that price. The product has effectively kept fleas and ticks at bay through our observations. It competes with an established product and uses the same active ingredients that are patented by the original product. It is like a generic medicine that sells much less, it is an excellent bargain. We are very satisfied with it over the years. The motivating factor in this regard is comparable protection against lower costs. We are very satisfied with it over the years. There is no reason to switch from a known product that we already know is safe for our dog, so we will continue to buy this.
I use this Sentry Fiproguard Plus for dogs 4-22 pounds on my small dogs less than 10 pounds in the last year or so. (Since Advantix has changed their formula and caused my dog problems.) This Fiproguard squeeze is easy to use - simply open the tube and separate the dog fur between the shoulder blades and apply. It had not caused a bad reaction in all my dogs, including my newest puppy who turned 5 months yesterday. They are flea free and I like that this formula takes care of flea eggs as well as adults. It also takes care of ticks and chewing lice (although I have luckily seen only a handful of ticks in this area). I would definitely recommend this formula to anyone looking for decent flea protection for their dogs because it is effective and appears to be less harsh than the other more expensive brands. Note: this box and the previous one do not have a specified expiration date, but I could call the phone number for the manufacturer and give them the batch number (printed) To the box) to get the expiration date. Since the dogs get one of these every month if you only have one dog, you want to make sure it is good for at least 6 months after you get it.
This is the second product that can ward off many parasites from the dog than just fleas. The Fleaaway is also able to effectively ward off fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes from your Fido. That is why this brand is comparable to the previous one. The apparent, however, has an effect on mosquitoes and is therefore lowered.
Comes to the product, the Fleaaway is useful to feed your dog because it is on a chewable tablet form. That is why it becomes very easy to feed it to your dog during his meal.
You can even crush the tablet and mix it with your dog’s meal so that even the pickiest eater won’t notice.
Finally, these are good flea and tick pills for dogs suffering from flea allergies, to add to the description of the concurrent product. In fact, the Fleaaway will not irritate even dogs suffering from extreme flea allergy dermatitis.
Moreover, the Fleaaway is even useful for removing ticks, mosquitoes. Apart from that, these parasites do not even have to bite to be affected/rejected.
- All-natural: Flea Away is a vitamin complex made according to FDA standards and specifically developed for dogs and cats, creating a natural and safe barrier against fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes.
- No pesticides: Flea Away repels fleas, ticks, mosquitoes of course, without toxic chemicals or residues. safe for both the nursing mother and her nest.
- Additional benefits: our vitamin complex promotes healthier skin, reduces peeling, a shiny coat, better joints and is liver-flavored. Your pet will love it!
Questions & Answers
Does this medication gets rid off the fleas and ticks ??
So far my dog has no fleas and ticks since I started giving him one pill every day. I think it's better than putting some chemicals on his body. As long as I don't see any fleas, I have no intention of changing.
I live in woods does it work?
My dog has serious skin problems, and the liquid stuff made it worse, so I try the Flea Away and he does it incredibly well, not only do they help with fleas and mosquitoes, but his coat and smell is much, much better .... I give 2 pills every day, and it took about a month to see the changes, I don't live in a wooded area, but we have many wild creatures that would like to visit.
What are the ingredients? Only thing I know that will give pets an odor that repells fleas is garlic, which will also damage red blood cells.
Here is what the side label says:Thiamine. 667%vitamin E 60 IU. 200%Niacin. 200%Vitamin B 6. 200%Floate. 100%vitamin B12. 200%calcium. 20%brewers yeastLiver powdercollagen powderinactive ingredients: microcrystalinne, Silica , vegetable magnesium stereate .I have been giving these to my dogs for nearly a year and have had wonderful results. I believe the brewers yeast is an old time fix and it works . I have a 60 pound lab and she takes 2 and a 30 pound sheltie who takes one a day. No fleas.
What if your dog already has fleas? Will it kill the ones on the dog?
This is not a treatment, it is a vitamin complex, specially developed for dogs and cats. When Flea Away is stored in your pet's system for 30 days, the vitamins ensure that your pet develops a natural repellent against fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. Fleas, ticks and mosquitoes come to a dog or cat because they smell CO2. Our safe mix of vitamins covers the smell of CO2, so you can see a flea jump on or off your pet, but that flea will never bite them. This is very important because 70% to 80% of dogs are allergic to flea bites.

I have seen mixed reviews about this product and therefore I have to clarify a few things. This year I am on my third bottle, I use it for 6 dogs. Two of those dogs are German shepherds and the other four are small Maltese mix. I use the Flea Away pills with a brewer's yeast and garlic tablet (for dogs) every day and these work. If it doesn't work for you, change your dog's food because feeding cheap dog food attracts fleas. I give my dogs grain-free dog food and I believe that better food and the use of these pills keeps fleas away. If you see one or two fleas on your dog, this does not mean that it is not working. Some dogs have a sensitive stomach and may not be able to take this pill. I am not sure why some dogs get diarrhea and I am not sure if it has anything to do with this pill, but with as many dogs as I am and given the difference it makes, I recommend making dog food better to change grain-free dog food. We have been flea free for a few years now and I intend to continue using this product for as long as ever.
We feed a wild cat. When we started feeding him, his face was scratched and infected. We gave him antibiotics in his food for several rounds and it would get better and then bleed again. We found out that he was scratching himself, either from fleas or something else. Started giving him the flea away and healed within a few weeks. That is more than three months ago, because I have just ordered the second bottle. I have to crush and hide him in his food, but he looks great.
In the past year I switched to this product to replace the chemical flea and tick repellent we had used. I have 4 dogs and I live on 3.18 hectares of mainly wooded land. Since I use this product, my 4 dogs are flea and tick free. I also spray a part of my backyard with a natural flea and tick repellent, but when I live where I live I am very happy that we have not seen a single bug on my dogs. The pills are a bit big and sometimes my dogs didn't eat them, so we started to break them in two and add them to their food. That way they always eat them without any problem.
We had problems getting rid of fleas that we didn't even notice with the dogs, but they just kept itching so we gave this a chance and because they have been taking it for more than a month, they no longer itch. We live in the country and we have forests and tall grasses that they can get into, so it is a fight, but this product seems to have succeeded apart from all other tricks (liquid treatments, soap baths and morning dish sprays), so we are happy that this has saved them from the torture of constant itching.
As the name of the Capstar product suggests, it contains Nitenpyram as the active ingredient.
In addition, Nitenpyram efficiently kills adult fleas, the apparent drug can initiate flea destruction immediately within half an hour after consumption.
the Capstar Nitenpyram is a safe alternative to current flea control solutions. Because you just have to give the dog a small tablet such as the Benadryl and wait for the results. It takes about half an hour for the tablet to kill the fleas and ticks on the dog.
Ultimately, we want you to understand the process of dosing your pooch with the flea products. You can give this tablet to your dog depending on the severity of the pest. However, you must not give your dog more than one tablet per day. Because the 11.4 milligram of Nitenpyram in one tablet is sufficient for the day. Otherwise, your Fido may suffer from the side effects unnecessarily.
- Contains 6 doses for use in dogs weighing 2-25 (11.4 mg) pounds
- One oral tablet starts to fight fleas within 30 minutes of administration
- Quickly address flea infestations Geef (give Capstar and see how dead fleas from your fall pet
Questions & Answers
How long does it last?
This is not a preventive flea medicine. it only kills the fleas that are on the animal when you dose it. We use them for rescue work - when we find a stray dog / cat, they are usually infected. We dose, come in to save, are fed - then bathe .... if you are looking for a long-term preventive this is not the product
Safe for cats? Or do I need a formulation specific for cats?
It is safe for cats and dogs. I use it for both and it is in the description. There is also no specific formula for it.
Why does this work for some dogs and not others? Different species of fleas?
I do not know. I just thought it didn't work. I have Pomeranians and they have done nothing. I have two outdoor cats that I used the cat on while I waited for the collar to work and nothing. I just don't think they're doing anything.

This product has helped my dogs a lot !! All fleas just fell off !! Thank you for your excellent product !!
We received this product yesterday and used it immediately. After an hour I decided to look through my dog's hair to look for fleas. The ones I found were already dead! I decided to wash our dog afterwards to get rid of it as much as possible. Every flea I found was already dead. We now have a very happy flea-free dog. This product is great! As stated on the box, it is not for the long term, it is only used to get rid of the flea infestation. You must then provide your pet with something long-term. I thought we should give our puppy another pill the next day, but 1 was enough for us. Probably because he is a smaller dog. I found a flea on him today after a thorough search, but it was also dead. Highly recommend this for someone who needs something quick and easy to get rid of the plague before giving your pet something long-term.
This product works as intended. I have two dogs, both between 10-15 pounds, one dog is more prone to fleas than the other because of the type of hair. I usually give each dog a pill and fleas disappear within a day or two. I have to repeat the dosage for my dog with long hair about a week later. All in all a good price for a product that works so well. Better product and price compared to what I found in a local store.
Flea Pills For Dogs Versus Current Applications And Collars
Flea pills are just one option for flea treatment and prevention.
Current applications, flea tires, shampoos, and environmental insecticides are also options to help you tackle a flea infestation.
The decision to use a pesticide/insecticide is up to you and your veterinarian. Floor resistance to certain products can play a role in this decision-making process, as well as safety concerns or personal preferences for current applicants and flea tires.
Pre-existing medical conditions, the age of your dog and whether or not it is pregnant can also help determine the right flea product for your dog.
In some cases, a fast-acting flea pill that kills fleas within a few hours may be part of a flea allergy dermatitis treatment plan.
Your veterinarian may have a fast-acting preventive flea pill to relieve your dog’s symptoms or recommend a freely available flea pill, such as Capstar, in addition to a monthly preventive.
Although preventive measures against oral fleas are very effective in killing adult fleas, they do not kill floor eggs and larvae. These flea eggs and larvae invade your garden and home and can lead to infections if they are not treated. If your pet takes a flea preventively and you still see many fleas, you may need to treat your home to get rid of the problem. Products for controlling fleas in the home, including foggers, sprays, and powders can help. Flea measures have changed considerably over the years. More importantly, your veterinarian is aware of possible side effects and medication interactions between flea pills and other preventive agents and prescriptions. Your veterinarian can let you know if there is an aptitude for side effects of the breed and if there is anything else in your dog’s medical history that may be relevant. There are a few types of flea treatments for dogs. We have maintained spot-on treatments and oral medicines because they are easy to buy and manage. Curious about what else is available? Future Flea Prevention
Thank goodness fleas can be prevented. After choosing a flea pill for your dog, follow any additional steps recommended by your veterinarian.
In most cases of flea infestations, you must also treat your home and garden for fleas, along with other household pets, and you must stay on top of your flea and check a preventive schedule to make it effective to keep.
Finally, you must ensure that your dog does not receive an unnecessary overdose of medicine. Because the ingredients used in these best flea and tick pills for dogs can have side effects if you give it too much to your dog.
