How do you ensure the quality of ALPO dog food?

We have a strict code of conduct for purchasing, storing and processing ingredients used in our pet food. These standards are among the strictest in the pet food industry, so you can feed our foods with confidence. Visit here for more information.

How do I know how to feed my dog?

Feeding your pet is 1 of the most important ways you can care for him. After choosing the right food for your pet, you can develop a portioning and scheduling plan. Click here to learn more about portion planning and check your product packaging for specific feed amounts.

Why can’t I find the calorie information on my can/bag of ALPO dog food?

Some of our pet food packages contain caloric information. If the product package you are feeding does not contain this information, we will be happy to assist you. Contact us for information.

What should I consider when selecting a dog food?

Choose a dog food that is 100% complete and balanced for your pet's life stage. All of our dog foods come with feeding instructions to help you properly feed your pet depending on its size. ALPO is complete and balanced for every stage of life and will contribute to your pet's overall health along with regular exercise and attention to your pet's special needs.

Do I need to introduce new food gradually to my dog?

You should consider gradually switching to a new pet food to avoid feeding problems. We recommend that consumers introduce new pet food over a period of 7 - 10 days to avoid nutritional problems. Every day increase the amount of the new food and decrease the amount of the current food.

After opening, how long can wet food be left out?

We recommend that you do not leave wet food for more than 2 hours after opening. Leftover food should be refrigerated in a covered container and stored for no longer than 3 days.

Can I microwave canned pet food?

We do not recommend microwaving pet food that has been refrigerated. The food can heat unevenly, creating hot spots that can injure your dog's mouth. Rather than microwave, we recommend allowing the product to come to room temperature for approximately 1 hours before serving.

What is complete & balanced nutrition in dog food?

Dog food forms a dog's entire diet, so it must provide all the nutrients in the right amounts that your dog needs at every stage of life. That's why dog food uses the phrase "complete and balanced" so often. For more information about nutrition, click here.

Where is ALPO dog food manufactured?

We proudly produce our food in factories in the USA. This product is a treat and is not intended to be given as a meal. Feed 1 treats for every 15 lbs of body weight, not to exceed 5 treats per day. The calorie intake of treats should not exceed 10% of a dog's total daily calorie requirement. If something tasty is given, the amount of food should be reduced accordingly. Monitor your dog to make sure the treat is chewed well before swallowing.
